How Do I Add a Secondary Email and Phone Number?

Every staff member must supply a secondary email and phone number for two reasons:

  1. If you forget your password, you can use your secondary email and phone number to reset your password without contacting the help desk.  
  2. If you have any issues with your Okta account, the help desk will use your secondary email to confirm your identity. If you do not have this information on your Okta account, confirming your identity will take longer and will delay providing help with your Okta account. 
 

Adding Secondary Email and Phone Number:

  1. Go to signon.okta.com.
  2. Sign into your account.
  3. Click on your name in the top right corner and a drop-down menu will appear.
  1. Click on Settings.
  1. Click “Account Settings” in the top left box labeled “Personal Information.”
  1. Enter your preferred personal secondary email address in the box labeled “Secondary Email.”  Do not use another work-associated email address or you will still be locked out of your account.
  1. Follow the directions for two-factor authentication (2FA).
  2. Return to Okta’s home page. 
  3. Click “Add phone number” under the second box on the right side labeled “Forgot Password Text Message”. If you already have a phone number associated with your Okta account, your screen will look like the above. If not, there will be a green button to click in this space to add your phone number.
  1. Follow the instructions to save your phone number.
